I don’t know how it’s got it’s name, Norwalk, but it’s a horrid eColi infection which affects passenger ships on a regular basis; due to the fact people don’t wash their hands after visiting the bathroom and then go on about their business touching food, pressing elevator buttons and using stair railings.
It’s highly contagious.
To help combat the disease, which causes vomiting, diarrhea, severe cramps and fever, at the beginning of a voyage no one is allowed to serve themselves at the buffets until the third day of the cruise. It’s called ‘code orange.’ I guess they figure that after everyone’s been reminded to warsh their hands – or at the very least, use the Purell which is stationed everywhere about the ship for three days in a row the chance of someone having brought the virus on board is reduced.
Norwalk can cripple a ship and ruin a vacation as those affected are confined to their cabins, and no one is allowed to self-serve. Events are canceled and workers are temporarily forced to become room service attendants.
While it hasn’t affected my Boat, I’ve heard stories of horrible it can be.
Now, while I’m certainly not wishing for it, it would be nice to lose a little of freshman fifteen I’ve gained since embarking…we are heading to Mexico and you know what they say about drinking the water…
